Confessions Of A Readaholic

Tuesday 24 December 2013

Hey guys,

The first book I will be reviewing is 'Looking for Alaska' by John Green. If you don't know what it is about here is a short synopsis:

Miles Halter (a schoolboy from Florida with an interest in biographies especially last words) leaves his hometown to go to Culver Creek Preparatory High School where he boards - his reason "I go to seek a great perhaps" (Francois Rabelais' last words). His roommate Chip 'The Colonel' Martin introduces him to his friends which include Alaska Young and Takumi. They soon give Miles a nickname: 'Pudge' which is ironic seeing as he is tall and skinny. On Pudge's first night the 'Weekday Warriors'  - so called because they are rich Birmingham area students - attack and throw him in a lake. The Weekday Warriors and Pudge's new friends are in the midst of a prank war. As the book goes on Pudge falls in love with Alaska even though they both have complicated relationships (Alaska has a boyfriend in her home town and Pudge is sort of dating a girl called Lara who also attends Culver Creek).

Loads of other stuff happens but I don't want to say anymore just incase I accidentally give anything away however, this is an amazing book which did make me burst out in laughter a couple of times which is always a good sign. I don't really cry that much but if I did I'm sure I would at the end. I read 'Looking for Alaska' after I read 'The Fault in Our Stars' another one of John Green's books (which is also amazing and I will be reviewing it in the future) and it did not disappoint (making John Green one of my favourite authors now) I would give it 4.5 stars because although it was very very good, it wasn't as good as 'The Fault in Our Stars' which is a 5 star book.

I urge you to read this book and if you already have and disliked it or found it really weird and had to put it down, please don't hesitate to voice your opinion in the comments. Or if you've already read it and found it as good as I did don't hesitate to comment either!

Thanks,
COAR
